Select track in Itunes and Right Click/Get Info
Under Options set the start time and End time so that the track is no more than 40 seconds in length.
Click OK
Right Click/Create AAC Version
[iTunes will then create a 40 second version of the track]
Right click on the (newly created) track and Show In Windows Explorer
You then need to change the file extension from m4a to m4r
[in order to see file extensions in Windows Explorer Press Alt (to see the File menu) Tools/Folder Options/View and then uncheck Hide extensions for known file types]
[Then you probably don’t want to see file extensions in future so reverse this process]
Drag and drop the new file into iTunes and it should then appear under Ringtones
Go back to your original file and reset the playing time by unchecking the time Options.
